Thoughtstream Media, office space renovation, Richmond, Va.

Thoughtstream Media wanted to locate their postproduction video facility into an office building in the historic Shockoe Bottom section of Richmond. The building had previously been a tobacco warehouse. Because the new space got its borrowed daylight from a skylit atrium, we decided to utilize a curved brushed aluminum paneled wall to reflect what light enters the atrium glazing as well as from the added cable lighting. The light reflecting curved wall, with its allusions to the video screen, encloses a sequestered edit suite. The suite is fashioned as a multileveled “theater” space where clients can watch and interact with editors as they work. The facility also includes other edit suites, equipment rack spaces, offices and conference spaces and a coffee bar. The space serves to support the interactive creative process, encouraging the exchange of ideas between editors, directors, producers and others in the video production community.
