Downtown Recreation Center renovation, Charlottesville, Va.

The City of Charlottesville needed to renovate the Downtown Recreation Center to meet current recreation needs and to expand its spaces to serve other programs. Andy worked with four separate city departments, as Project Architect with BRW Architects, helping to set an appropriate scope of work, coordinate programming, and to provide schematic design and construction documents. The design included, new roofing, new windows, exterior renovations, and a major renovation of finishes with new mechanical systems. All spaces, including new shower rooms were designed to be handicapped accessible to serve many, including the wheelchair basketball team. The design for the lower floor upfit included toilets to serve the outdoor pavilion assembly space, new dance studio, weight room, other athletic spaces, and a new training center for the City.
